Artist Books widely evade a formal definition because of the complexity of the book form. Some Artist Books focus on historic process like fine binding, letterpress printing and the use of handmade paper. Some focus on narrative elements with or without a formal bound structure. Others are conceptually driven to deconstruct the elements of the book to form new and innovative structures.
I created this artist book, in 2005 when I was a student at Albion College. I wrote, set the letterpress text, and printed the poems. I made the drawings for the linoleum blocks, carved the blocks and printed the illustrations for each poem on the schools' Vandercook 1. This books was printed in an edition of .
Book is created in memory of my grandmother, Helen, who passed away from Alzheimer's disease.
MATERIALS & DETAILS
# books are printed in 100% cotton, BFK Rives paper and Blank books are printed on Mowhak paper with cut out birds inlaid between the book pages which illuminate when the pages are turned. Covers are grey BFK, a 100% cotton printmaking paper. The title of the book is blank embossed into the front cover.
All ink printed on the pages is oil-based. Binding is a single needle copic binding. Books are created using 100% archival materials.
The dimensions of the book are 7 1/2"W x 10"H x 1/4" D.
